EGGS DAY 1

Kinder eggs are weird German candies/toys. They are a plastic capsule surrounded by a shell of chocolate. If you open up the capsule, there is a tiny toy cramped inside. The toys are surprisingly elaborate. Almost of them come in several parts (to allow them to fit in the capsule) and require assembly and have moving parts. They instructions are in German, but they come with pictures. I bought 125 of the capsules off of E-Bay.

I just got eggs today. I ordered them like a month ago, but I guess since they shipped all the way from Germany it took a while.

Since it was the first day I opened a bunch of them. I plan on only opening one or two a day, but, having this box of unpredictable possibilities right infront of me, it is hard not to open them all right away. Luckily the assembly can be pretty time consuming and discourage me from continuing for too long.

 #1: PINK KNIGHT

This is the first dude I got, and he is pretty cool. A little pink kinght (with a dagger instead of a sword or lance, apparently) riding on a dragon. He also comes with a pink and green cake-like fortress, although he can't fit in the door. Came with some stickers to decorate it with, too.

#2: ROBOTIC GRASSHOPPER

I went for this one next because of he was one of the capsules with a different color, and also weird ridges. It turned out the reason was because his capsule is actually part of the toy. The attachments slide into the ridges on the outside, and his head/tail pop into the top/bottom holes. His legs bend. He was kind of hard to put together.

#3: GENERIC CAR

Just a car. He had to be put together though, with the front wheels being one piece and the back wheels/chassis being another piece, then a window and yellow car piece. If you pull it back, it will move forward a little bit. Not the most interesting toy but impressive considering it came inside an egg.

#4: POLITE TEMPLAR

A weird little guy. His one arm is connected to his body but his other arm snaps into a wheel on his bottom so that as you push him around he constantly is tipping his hat. The act of tipping your hat kind of loses its meaning when you are doing it at all times, though. Terrible accuracy.

#5: TWO SIDED TOP

The thin plastic parts that connect to the blue parts are double sided, with one side being this pattern and the other one is rainbow. It spins really well.

#6: JULIET (THE YACHT)

The first toy I got without any moving parts (unless you count the top, but that whole thing is a moving part). I bet it probably floats, but I didn't try it. Don't know why it is called Juliet.

#7: COOL TOUCAN

Cool bird. When you push his tail up his mouth opens. The bottom of his mouth and the tail are one part, but it is designed so when it is pushed up it also pushes up the top of the mouth, which is part of the same piece as the hair and eye.

#8: DISTURBING DIVER

This one also came in a weird capsule like the grasshoper: his blue body was originally part of the capsule, and has slots on the side and a small hole on the bottom. The capsule also had a smaller yellow part, but that isn't used. This is the weirdest one yet. You put a sticker of the face around the part that ends up being his head, and then the bronze diving helmet part around it. Then you can turn the silver top piece clockwise and...he drowns. Kind of weird to be a toy. In the middle frame he kind of looks like the face of your guy from DOOM.

#9, 10, & 11: SHITTY THINGS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO FLY BUT DON'T

Each of the instructions of these toys show that they come in a set, and I'm kind of excited about the possibility of getting a full set. Unfortunately, these fuckers (not the eagle but the rhino and elephant) are the first that I got that go towards a set. The instructions show that you're supposed to throw them and they will spin around in the air, but they just plummet to the ground. Surprisingly, giant paper bunny ears don't let plastic fly. The eagle is slightly cooler, but his instructions also claim flight, showing a kid throwing it and it gliding. He also just plummets to the ground. His wings are plastic and not paper, at least.

#12 & 13: BEAR AND CHICKEN

The bear is the first one I got that was a single piece. The instructions show two kids, each with a similar toy to him, blowing on it to see who can knock theirs down first. Although his bottom is rounded to make it slightly easier, and he seems to be weighted so that when he does go down he immediately flips over onto his head, he is pretty fucking hard to blow over. The chicken one, though not a single piece, also came pre assembled. You can pull off the top and bottom and have the ball inside, but the ball is just plastic and doesn't bounce or anything, so I don't see the point.

#14: MIGUEL

The instructions say his name is Miguel. He's pretty complicated, but basically the head piece is one a stick which goes between latches on the end of the arm pieces, so you can push down the head and the hands move towards each other. The left accordian piece goes behind the right one, and it looks like he is squeezing it together. On his leg piece there are two sticks you place a rubberband along, and the bottom of the stick his head is part of goes between the rubberband so his head bounces back up when you push it down. Definitley my favorite toy so far. His instructions show him with a set of other Mexican guys with different instruments.

#15: HENRY HATSWORTH

A four piece set of blank plastic that you have to place stickers on. It's supposed to work so that when you bend the guy's top half down the mummy raises, and it works, but the legs only loosely connect to the sarcophagus/stand piece, so he often ends up falling over.

That's it for now!! I have to try to not open so many eggs at once. Future updates will be shorter.

  1. I'm thinking those are the candy eggs I use to get when we lived in AbuDhabi. My dad was working there, so we moved there for a little while. I've been trying to figure out the name of that candy. I still have the little toys that were in them. Very detailed toys. Some of my toys were dark wing duck. I also have that car that you show in one of your pictures.
